1) What does the title of the novel mean through the book and what is its connection with the main themes of the story?
The title of To Kill a Mockingbird has very little literalconnection to the plot, but in fact it has a symbolic weight in the book. In this story of innocents destroyed by evil, the “mockingbird” comes to represent the idea of innocence. During the whole book loadsof characters can be identified as a mockingbird (Jem, Boo, Dill, etc), they are persons that have been injured through contact with evil. We are able to see this connection between the title and thestory´s main theme many times during it for example at the end of the book Scout thinks that hurting Boo Radley would be like “shooting’ a mockingbird.
2)How does the children attitude towards BooRadley depict their development from innocence to a grown-up moral perspective?
Boo Radley becomes the focus of the children’s curiosity during the first chapter. As it represents the perspective ofchildhood innocence that´s why at first the recluse is described in a childish way, influenced by the superstitions that surround Boo, in fact Scout describes him as a “malevolent phantom” over sixfeet tall who eats squirrels and cats. But even though the readers are able to realize that there is something else on Boo´s story. And eventually, he will be transformed from a nightmare villain into ahuman being, and the children’s understanding of him will reflect the fact that they are growing up.
3) Why can Scout be considered a very unusual little girl, both in her own qualities an in hersocial position?
Scout is a very rare girl during the whole book we could realize that she is extremely intelligent as she learns to read before beginning school. She is also very thoughtful in factshe worries a lot about the essential goodness and evilness unusually. In addition she is confident, and unusually good as she always acts with the best intentions.
