Los Vikingos atravesaban velozmente el mar asolando las costas desde sus "drakkars" (llamadas así porque las proas y popas de sus naves estaban adornadas con cabezas dedragón). La población se sentía atemorizada por los vikingos debido a su ferocidad y crueldad.
