1. Introduction
The Formulator’s Toolbox is an essential guide forall formulation scientists. Drawing from a range of ten different surfactants, the Toolbox is capable of generating solutions applicable across eight key formulation technologies. The formulation technologies covered in the toolbox are:          Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) Microemulsion (ME) Suspension Concentrate (SC) Concentrated Aqueous Emulsion (EW) Suspoemulsion (SE) Wettable Powder(WP) Water Dispersible Granule (WG) Seed Coating Oil Dispersion (OD)

Croda provides the surfactants for each formulation technology and shows the formulator how they are efficiently used in a specific application. The Online Formulating tool is available via the Croda Crop Care extranet, Croda Direct. This tool calculates all the blending ratios required for a three component surfactantblending system and guides the formulator to the final formulation composition values. The table below lists the eight different formulation technologies that the range of Croda surfactants can help to formulate. A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) will have been provided with any sample of surfactant that accompanied this document. Formulation Technology

2. Experimental DesignExperimental Design is an essential tool for the formulation chemist. It enables the chemist to change the composition of a formulation methodically so that its optimum composition can be identified. By providing a map of points to tests, unnecessary experiments are kept to a minimum, thus minimising formulating time and effort. Before experiments begin, it is first necessary to: 1. 2. 3. 4. Establishperformance criteria Decide which inerts are to be used Understand how the formulation is going to be processed in the lab and on a larger scale Establish test procedures for both initial screening and for longer term performance

1. Establishment of performance criteria It is important to establish how the formulation is expected to perform since this will dictate the choice and concentration...
