Agricultural pollution
Animal waste contaminates many of our waters with pathogens and nutrients. Nationwide, 130 times more animal waste is produced than human waste.70% of theorganic water pollution in the U.S. is attributable to animal agriculture. We shloud also reduce the use of pesticides and preventing backflow of pesticides into water supplies, andimproving calibration of pesticide spray equipment, And applying pesticides only when an economic benefit to the producer will be achieved. If pesticide applications are necessary,pesticides should be selected based on consideration of their environmental impacts such as persistence, toxicity, and leaching potential.
Nutrient management:the fundamentals ofa comprehensive nutrient management plan include a nutrient budget for the crop, identification of the types and amounts of nutrients necessary to produce a crop based on realisticcrop yield expectations, and an identification of the environmental hazards of the site. Other items called for in the measure include soil tests and other tests to determine cropnutrient needs and proper calibration of nutrient equipment.
The accumulation of nitrogen and phosphorus in waterways from chemical fertilizers has accelerated the process ofeutrophication in water bodies. The sever effect is the poisoning of water table due to run off of these chemical pollutants from the fields to the water source by rain.
Also the decayof fertilizers used in the fields releases ammonia that can interfere with the respiratory system of humans and develops serious health problems. The chemicals not only reduce thenutrient value of a crop but it adds toxicity into the crops. Once consumed, they severely affect our immune systems and reduces the capacity of our body to fight diseases.
