Purpose of theInvestigation
Anesthesia is the use of medicine to reduce or prevent pain in animals and humans. Today, many animals are kept as pets in our houses, and when they need surgery or control, the veterinarian mustplace them under anesthesia.
The amount of anesthesia that the veterinarian will use will depend on the type and weight of the animal. Before injecting it, he must check that the animal is healthy.After injecting the anesthesia, the veterinarian must observe the behavior of each animal to make sure that he has given the right amount and this will also tell him if the animal does not feel painand is ready for the surgery. This is why it is so important to know the effects of anesthesia on pets.
The purpose of this investigation is to determine the effects of anesthesia over twodifferent animal species: dog and cat.
Investigative Question
What are the effects of using anesthesia in dogs and cats?
Hypothesis
There are different behavioral effects in dogs and cats when theyare placed under anesthesia.
Materials List
* 2 animals: 1 dog, 1 cat
* Injection Anesthesia
* Disposable medical equipment: syringes, cotton swabs with alcohol, surgical masks
*Medical equipment: stethoscope, thermometer, Intravenous solution
* Operation Room with surgery table, lamp
* Notebook and pencil.
Methods
1. Receive the animal that will be placed inanesthesia, the veterinarian will perform a clinical exam on each animal to make sure that it is healthy.
2. The animal will be prepared before it is taken to the Operation Room, the veterinarianassistant will make sure the animal is ready before injecting the anesthesia and he will weigh each one, assign the kind of anesthesia and the amount to use for each one.
