The Revenge of the Oppressed Criollo
Among many factors that led to the independence of Mexico in the nineteenth century is necessary to highlight the discontent of the criollos with Spaniards. The criollos were the product of the Spaniards’ children procreated with women brought from Spain, and mestizos (product of Spaniard with the Indians). Since blood lead, the Spaniards were treated betterthan Indians. They were given better education and allowed them to perform some administrative positions, conduct business and even to enrich themselves. Soon criollos born in America and some Indians showed higher capacity and preparation that lacked the Spaniards themselves; as between the ignorant and abundant merchants, miners, ranchers, adventurers, and a good number of priests as closed asopened uncountable greed. The cultural awakening from criollos was manifested in a brilliant generation of knowledge. Anxious for knowledge, studying the latestscientific and social theories in books and brochures obtained from smuggling to circumvent censorship and prohibiting on civil and religious authorities. Some were members of the Jesuit order and imparted their knowledge in schools and colleges founded by that order in Mexico City, Valladolid, Puebla, Guadalajara, and so forth. Others non religious intellectuals founded newspapers and became members ofEuropean institutions.

A man doubted his divine origin of the authority of kings and rejected the social foundations of a system that protected damaged andoppressed lower classes citizens (Indians and poor criollos).

He enjoyed the advantages of intellectualcuriosity and higher education. With these assets he pursued the humanistic, social, and political ideas which characterized his age.” (Hamill Jr. Pg. 53)
For his fine humanistic spirit, inclined to fight for the good of others, especially those that fate had doomed since the day they were born and came to the world to suffer a lifetime of exploitation; and being victims of contempt for the powerful men[Spaniards] embraced the new social theories and received the relief of their own destiny. Therefore, indicate the main features of employment of criollos, to which Hidalgo had to face. By having this profound contradiction, they divided into criollos from Europe and America, as they called themselves. The eurocriollos were those who by reason of birth of good relationships with families ofhigher social status or business [with the wealthy], received a better education, expose to traveling to Europe, many of them for that purpose, which influenced, to some as to avoid them from the popular heritage.
