ALCOHOLISM ESSAY
GROUP # 2

Date: Guatemala; June, 02, 2012
When we turn on the television one of the most common things we see are the alcohol commercials they had hollywood celebrities and fashion icons promoting the products in the other hand we can also hear songs that invite us to get drunk and have party, to consume all the alcohol we can but the things that non ofthese say are the side effects and consequences of alcoholism.

In our society we are able to find many different points of view about what alcoholism is but this view points some times are far away from what alcoholism actually is. Some look at alcoholism as that person on the street that doesnt have a job and that has lost his family but it doesnt always necessary mean that sometimeswe see a spectrum of what it is, it can start from what is call “social use” but with the time it can progress to “mess use” then “abuse” and finally “dependence”.

The Health World Wide Organization define alcoholism as: “an incurable, progressive and mortal illness for its consequences” , we know that these illness don’t start without a motive or motives for that reason we should knowall the main information about it. We have to had the information for being safe and healthy and for be able to help those persons we love and care about and others that maybe we dont know but need someones help to overcome this illness.

For that reason we decide to investigate and collect information about this, every internet site we enter to, every book page we read and every pictureand video about alcoholism we saw; make us understand that this problem can be solve but it needs persons who are comely to bring an advice for the one who needs it and help the ones who are already suffering the consequences this illness cause in all life aspects. We start the research from the main concepts of alcoholism until we find the ways to rehab from these illness.

Now we aregoing to present the information collect starting from some alcoholism causes. Some people think that alcoholism problems in some cases are related to genetic information it means persons that have relatives with alcohol problems had more chances to suffer this problem too, it is because we have a gene called D2 (dopamine receptor gene) and when it inherit in a specific form the chances of developalcoholism increase; other causes are not related to the biological factors because they are social factors such as group influence, family pressure, society pressure and peers pressure this factors are commonly found in teenagers because they dont to be reject they want to feel part of something and sometimes they do things without thinking on the consequences probably those things would haveand alcoholism develop could be one of those; finally other type of factors we found are the psychological factors like stress (it could be cause by work, personal problems, etc.), and reinforcement of alcohol use by other drinkers.

By these time we probably should ask ourself “How can I identify alcoholism in a person? Or How can I know if my drinking turn on alcoholabuse or alcohol dependence?”
Well, in the information we found the author of the article describe some symptoms and signs that we sholud take on account. He said that we can identify alcoholic problems by searching behavior changes and adverse effects of functioning than medical syptoms, also that only two of the diagnosis criteria are related to psychology and they are: tolerance changes andwithdrawal symptoms. The great majority of people with these problem unrecognize the real situation they are involve and this because a person with alcohol dependence is able to conceal the amount of frequency drinking, the denying of the problems can turn by drinking; the human body can adapt to the increasing of alcohol consume until it reach a point that is totally mortal.
