Guide Lines To Write An Essay

Considerations:

0 Essay is NOT a summary of 5 articles
0 it is discussion of the environment surrounding the story which caused the story to grow and develop
1 it is adiscussion of the expansion of facts/investigative reporting

2. Organizing the essay can either be chronological (from “seed” to most recent) or reverse-chronological (from present to “seed”)3. Essay MUST follow rubric and coverage points as found on Bb

Rubric
Format--
* Minimum of 1200 words
* 1" margins
* Double-spaced
* 10-12 pt. font...preferably Times NewRoman or a similar font
* Standard indented paragraphs with NO additional spacing between paragraphs
* MLA-formatted in-text citations and an MLA-formatted Works Cited page ARE required.Content--Select one article in your chosen theme (biodiversity, right to health, or freedom of internet access/information).  The article needs be originally published within the last five days(since this past Saturday).
* Using the method discussed in class, identify FACTS and OPINIONS in the article
* Weigh the amount of each overall
* How is the material presented in thearticle (what is the "slant")?
* THEN, analyze WHY the article was written in the first place.
* What societal/cultural/global situations heralded the NEED for this story?
* Whatis the background for the story (where did it come from)?
* Is the story based on a local/regional/national/international "seed" story and to what do you attribute its wider appeal?
*To whom is the news story addressed? Based on the article's history, why was this the target audience?
* What is the age and gender demographic targeted? Does this "agree" with thearticle's origins? 
* What is the political affiliation targeted? Does this "agree" with the article's origins?
