Insomnia

There is absolutely nothing worse than not being able to sleep well. People who suffer from insomnia are exposed to experience lack of sleep on a daily basis. When we do not sleepwell, we are grumpy, touchy, our body and muscles are stiff, our head hurts, and we cannot even think right. Imagine how difficult it could be to engage in normal activities such as, going to work,driving, or studying without any sleep. When we do not sleep well, nothing seems to be right. We usually use a famous phrase when we do not sleep through the night, “I woke up on the wrong side of thebed”. These symptoms are caused by a very well known condition called insomnia. I chose to write about Insomnia because I am one of the many people who suffer from this sleeping disorder. Like me, thereare many people who experience having insomnia at some point in their lives.
The textbook defines insomnia as, difficulties in either going to sleep or staying asleep through the night. Thiscondition can range from mild to severe, depending on how often it occurs and how long. By definition, insomnia is "difficulty starting or remaining asleep, or even both" and it may be due to scarcequality or quantity of sleep. Insomnia is not defined by a specific number of hours of sleep that we get, since everyone is different, therefore sleep varies extensively depending in our needs andpractices. Although most of us know what insomnia is and how we feel and perform after one or more sleepless nights, few of us seek medical advice. Most adults have experienced insomnia or sleeplessness atone time or another in their lives. An estimated 30%-50% of the general population is affected by insomnia, and 10% have chronic insomnia.
Insomnia may be caused by a vast number of reasons. Themost common psychological problems that may lead to insomnia are anxiety, stress, and depression. Anxiety can interrupt a person’s normal sleep pattern. Anxiety is a condition that often appears...
