In the United States, Women in the late nineteenth century were expected to behave around other people. And evensome women were expected to get married at a very young age. Many women of the time period were very unhappy about how they were treated. During the Jazz Era, in the early 1900’s, many women acted anddressed differently. The sudden change in culture set a launch for the Progressive movement. The Progressive Movement also made women’s suffrage a national movement. The Progressives believed thatwomen were much more moral than men, so the progressives believed that with women gaining the right to vote would ensure that progressive laws could be passed.
Women such as Susan Anthony and ElizabethStanton created the National Woman Suffrage Association. Their goal was to gain voting rights for women ‘by means of a Congressional amendment to the constitution’ (infoplease.com). Soon after,women gained the right to vote in the United States in 1896 by Wyoming. Gaining the right to vote was one of the main focuses of the Women’s Rights Movement. Women in the U.S. wanted equality between menand women. When the men went off to war women started to take up roles in the war, and to support the war they also got jobs in factories, there would be a lot of reasons for women wanting the rightto vote.
