I served in the US Army as a 91 Romeo Veterinary FoodInspection Specialist for 4 years, one of which was in theater, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Received cross training as a Veterinary Technician. My responsibilities Included:
•Examination oflivestock supposed of diseases, by gathering diagnostic examples and specimens (tissue, blood, urine) under the direction of a Veterinarian.
•Controlled animals for sample collection or testing byVeterinarian.
•Conducted subsistence quality assurance inspections in food handling establishments. Making sure base restaurants, commissaries and vendors met all regulations and complied with the 2001Food Code.
•Conducted sanitary inspections in military and commercial facilities, including slaughter houses, dairies, produce farms, and dry goods manufacturers.
•Collected, prepared, andtransmitted samples to the laboratory for testing.
•Inspected red meats, poultry, water foods, eggs, dairy products, and fresh fruit and vegetables.
•Inspection of operational rations (Meals Ready to Eat,Heat and Serve Rations)
•Identified unsanitary conditions in food storage facilities
