Edmond Dantès is a sailor and he’s returning to Marseille. During the journey, the captain died, but before dying he gave a letter to Edmond and he said that it was forNapoleon Bonaparte. Edmond did it, and when he arrived to Marseille he was ready for being a Capitan. Danglars wanted this, and he was very angry when he knew that Edmond will be the Captain. He wasalso fiancé with Mercedes, but Fernand de Morcerf also loved her. The day of the marriage Edmond was arrested and the police took him to Villefort, the crown prosecutor. Villefort knew about hisinnocence, but when he knew that Edmond had a letter written by Napoleon to Villefort’s father, he decided to arrest him and Edmond was taken to the prison of Château d’If.
Edmond passed fourteen years inthe prison, and one day he saw that his neighbor, an old man called Father Faria, was digging a tunnel. When it was finished, they became very friends, and Faria said to Edmond that his enemies wereDanglars, Fernand de Morcerf and Villefort, because they three caused Edmond’s imprisonment. He also said to Edmond that in the island of Monte Crist there was a very big treasure. When Faria died,Edmond put his dead body in his cell, and put himself in the coffin. The guards shoot Edmond out of the castle, and he fell in the sea.
He could swim until he arrived to an island. While he wasrecovering, he saw some pirates, and he decided to join them. After a few months they went to the island of Monte Cristo, and there Edmond simulated he was dying, and the pirates left him alone. He looked forthe treasure, and when he discovered it, he was one of the richest men in the world.
He returned to Marseille with a new name, the “Count of Monte Cristo”, and he decided to help the people whohelped him, and revenge Danglars, Villefort and Fernand.
